Despite the name, the podcast isn’t solely focused on what is happening within Africa but also how the decisions of more advanced countries are impacting the African climate.
According to COP26 – the 26th meeting of the Conference of Parties, aka the 26th year, that governments, NGOs, trade unions, businesses, and everyone else with an interest in climate change meet to review and negotiate global action – developed countries are responsible for producing the highest amount of emissions. Due to this, they are required to offer developing countries climate finance to help them combat the ever-changing climate conditions.
In this episode, Sophie has a conversation with Ambassador Mohamed Nasr, a former African Group of Negotiators Chair, the current lead negotiator on finance and Kassim Gawusu Toure, a climate activist and a junior negotiator with the AGN. They look at how much Africa has done with the COP26 goals, the financial matters, what Africa is pushing for and why.
